Responsibilities of the academic co-editors:
- Screening submissions for suitability (academic content and format)
- Locating qualified peer reviewers for submissions, and sending manuscripts out for review
- Notifying authors of the results of peer review (publish with or without major/minor revisions; do not publish)
- Compiling accepted articles to be published in journal issues
- Working with the Copyeditor and the Publisher to produce journal issues
Here is a list of responsibilities of the Editorial Board. The role of the editorial board is to advise and support the co-editors. Functions may include:
- Identifying possible contributors, special issues and advising on direction for the journal
- Giving feedback on past issues and making suggestions for both subject and matter
- Provide content by writing occasional editorials and other short articles
- Peer review; also help to identify peer reviewers and provide second opinions on papers (i.e. where there is a conflict between reviewers)
- Identify relevant conferences
- Publicize the journal to authors, readers and subscribers and encourage colleagues to submit high-quality work
