Book Review Editor Position Description (September 2025)
The Book Review Editor solicits copies of scholarly books suitable for publication in S/HE: An International Journal of Goddess Studies, and invites qualified scholars to write reviews according to the Guidelines available at https://sheijgs.space/?page_id=2620.
Authors should be encouraged to consult at least one book review published in a back issue of the journal for an idea of the expected style and content.
Invitations should be sent by email, and include author, title, abstract and page count for the book, as well as specifying a reasonable due date.
Book review authors should have a doctoral degree in the area of study of the books they are reviewing. Reviewers may be from the Editorial Board, but it will often be necessary to invite non-members.
Books for review should be recent (published in the past three years), and preferably available in electronic form. Books may be provided either by the publisher or by the author.
An average of 3 – 5 book reviews per issue of the journal (published 2X/year) is desirable.
The Editor should monitor submissions for quality and appropriateness to the journal and correspond with authors as necessary.
Except in unusual circumstances, book reviews should not be shared with authors prior to publication. Book reviews stand independently. If authors or publishers attempt to influence the review, the review proposal of the book may be refused or cancelled.
The final decision whether or not to publish a review is up to the Editors.
