We are inviting papers for the special theme issue, Women and Shamanism, aiming for the Spring 2027 (Vol 6 No 1). Given that the topic of women and shamanism is broad and slippery to define, we are open to new and old research to shape the field, Matricentric Shamanism. Multidisciplinary and cross-ethnic approaches are welcome. As a guideline, we propose the following periodic framework:
A. Pre-patriarchal Period (Paleolithic and the Early-Middle Neolithic ca. 3000 BCE)
B. Proto-patriarchal Period (ca. 3000 BCE to ca. the beginning of CE)
C. Patriarchal Period (ca. the beginning of CE to today)
The following themes are welcome but not limited to:
–Mytho-historical-cultural survey of Matricentric Shamanism
–Archaeo-mythological-textual evidence of female shamans
–Methodological discussion (non-patriarchal terms, notions, and approaches)
–Socio-political-cultural roles of shamans
–Leadership in matrilineal and matristic societies
–Female Shamans in mythology
–Shamans and the Cosmic Mother
–Shamanic religious, spiritual, and ritual practices
–Cosmology and thealogy
–Shamanism and the Great Unity
–Shamanism and the natural world
–Leadership of Female Shamans
–Shamans and patriarchal religion(s)
–Patriarchal persecution on Shamanism
–Mothers and Shamanism
–Shamans, healing, and soteriology
